Closing your account

What deleting a Hypertax account removes, what has to be kept and why, and what you should download before you ask for the deletion.

Updated 24 July 2026 · 1 min read

You can close your Hypertax account at any time, from account settings. Closing it is not reversible.

Download these first

  • Every finished return PDF you have paid for. Once the account is gone Hypertax cannot produce another copy.
  • Your receipts, if you need them.
  • Any slip image you still want.

Both agencies expect you to be able to produce your return years after you file it. Hypertax is not your archive.

What deletion removes

Your answers, your saved returns, your uploaded documents and your sign-in details, on the schedule in the retention policy.

What is kept, and why

Some records cannot be deleted on request.

  • Payment records. Tax and accounting law requires a seller to keep records of what was sold and to whom.
  • Audit log entries showing that an action happened, with the personal details inside them removed.
  • Anything under a legal hold, for as long as the hold lasts.

These are kept because the law requires them, not because they are useful to Hypertax.

Deletion is not a refund

Closing your account does not refund a return you already paid for. Ask for the refund first. Read refunds and billing problems.

This article explains a form and a process. It is general information, not tax advice about your own situation, and Hypertax does not send your return to the CRA — you print it and mail it. See the not-tax-advice notice and the rest of the help centre.
