Refunds and billing problems

When Hypertax refunds what you paid, how to ask, and what to do about a double charge, a failed download or a charge you do not recognise.

Ask through the support link in your account and include the receipt number. Most cases are settled within one working day.

When Hypertax refunds in full

  • You paid and the download never worked.
  • You were charged twice for the same return.
  • Hypertax produced a return that turns out to be outside its scope, so the return should never have been offered to you at all.
  • Hypertax made an arithmetic error in the return you paid for.

When a refund is unlikely

  • You changed your mind after downloading a correct return.
  • You made a mistake entering a box, downloaded the return, and want a second download at no charge. Correcting your own figures and downloading again is included, so ask for that rather than a refund.

A charge you do not recognise

Check the date and the last four digits against the receipts in your account. A return prepared for a family member on your card appears under your name. If it still looks wrong, send the details to support before you ask your bank to reverse it; a chargeback locks the account while the bank investigates.

A tax refund is a different thing

Money back from the CRA has nothing to do with Hypertax billing. Read tracking your refund.

  • What Hypertax costs

Hypertax charges once per return, at the point you download the finished PDF. The three tiers and what each one adds are listed here in full.

  • When you pay

You are charged once, at the download step, after you have seen the finished return. Nothing is charged while you answer questions or upload a slip.

This article explains a form and a process. It is general information, not tax advice about your own situation, and Hypertax does not send your return to the CRA — you print it and mail it. See the not-tax-advice notice and the rest of the help centre.
