Creating and signing in to your account
How to make a Hypertax account, the ways to sign in, and what to do when you cannot get back in to a return you have already started.

You need an account before Hypertax will save anything. Answers are stored against the account, which is what lets you stop on a phone and carry on later on a laptop.
Ways to sign in
- An email address with a single-use link sent to it.
- A Google, Microsoft or Apple account.
There is no password to remember or to lose. A sign-in link is valid for a short time and once only.
Use an address you will keep
Use an email address that will still be yours next February. Your account, your saved return and your receipts are all tied to it. Changing it later is possible from account settings, and it needs confirmation from both the old address and the new one.
Turn on two-step verification
Your account holds your tax number and your pay. Two-step verification is the single most useful thing you can do to protect it. Read two-step verification.
If the sign-in link does not arrive
- Look in the spam folder.
- Check you typed the address that the account was made with. A link is sent even when there is no matching account, so no attacker can learn which addresses are registered.
- Wait a minute and ask for another. The newest link cancels the ones before it.
- On a shared or work email system, ask whether external links are being stripped.
Signing in on a new device
Nothing needs transferring. Sign in and your return is there, at the step you left it.
