Figures: 2026 tax year

Your T4 never arrived

What to do when February passes and no T4 has come. You still have to file on time, and the CRA has a route for a missing slip.

Updated 24 July 2026 · 1 min read

The deadline for your return does not move because a slip is late. Start chasing it early.

Step 1: check the obvious

  • Look in the spam folder and in your payroll portal. Electronic delivery is common.
  • Check the address the employer has for you, especially if you moved during 2026.
  • For a job that ended during the year, check whether the slip went to your old address.

Step 2: ask the employer

Contact payroll in writing. Ask them to confirm the address they used and to send a copy. Keep a record of the date you asked.

Step 3: go to the CRA

Sign in to CRA My Account. Employers file the T4 information return with the CRA, so your slip is usually visible there even when your copy is lost in the post. That copy is enough to prepare a return with.

If nothing works, file anyway

File on time using your last payslip of the year for the figures, and keep it. Filing late costs more than filing with a figure you later have to correct. If the real slip turns up and differs, read changing a return you already posted.

An employer that has closed

The CRA still holds what was filed for you, so the My Account route above works unchanged even when there is no longer anyone to ring.

Two jobs in 2026 means two T4s and one return. Entering every slip is what recovers the CPP, CPP2 or EI you overpaid across those jobs.
