Figures: 2026 tax year

What you need before you start

A short list of the documents and numbers to have beside you before you open a Hypertax return, so the whole thing takes about twenty minutes.

Updated 24 July 2026 · 1 min read

Gather these before you start. The whole return takes about twenty minutes when everything is in front of you, and much longer when it is not.

Everyone needs

  • Your Social Insurance Number. See your Social Insurance Number.
  • Your legal name exactly as the CRA has it, and your current postal address.
  • Your date of birth, and the same for your spouse and any dependants.
  • Your T4 slip for 2026, one for each job you held.

If you are filing with a spouse

You need their SIN, their date of birth, and their slips. You also need their net income for 2026, because several credits are worked out on the household total.

If you have children

Have each child's SIN and date of birth ready, and keep receipts for child care and for medical costs you paid during the year.

What you do not need

You do not need last year's return, and you do not need a bank account. A refund can come as a paper cheque. You do not need a printer while you answer the questions; you need one at the very end.

This article explains a form and a process. It is general information, not tax advice about your own situation, and Hypertax does not send your return to the CRA — you print it and mail it. See the not-tax-advice notice and the rest of the help centre.
