Figures: 2026 tax year

Your T4 is wrong

What to do when a box on your T4 does not match your records: how to ask the employer for a correction, how long to wait, and how to file if it never comes.

Updated 24 July 2026 · 1 min read

Check the slip against your last payslip of the year before you do anything else. Gross pay for the year on that payslip should be close to T4 box 14, allowing for pre-tax amounts.

Ask your employer first

Only the employer can correct a slip. Contact payroll in writing, name the box, give the figure you believe is right, and keep the message. Most corrections take a week or two. The employer issues an amended T4 and files it with the CRA.

Errors that must be fixed before you file

  • A wrong SIN.
  • A name that does not match the CRA's records.
  • A wrong figure in T4 box 14 or box 22.
  • A missing or wrong province of employment in box 10.

Filing with a slip the CRA knows is wrong produces a mismatch and a letter.

Errors you can live with

A wrong address on the slip changes nothing. The CRA uses the address on your return.

If the correction does not come

Contact the CRA. File on time using your own records, and keep the payslips that support the numbers you used. Do not invent figures.

Your filing deadline does not move because a slip is wrong.
