Uploading a slip

How to photograph or scan a T4 so Hypertax can read it, what happens to the file afterwards, and how to enter the boxes by hand instead.

Uploading a slip saves typing. It is optional. Every box can be entered by hand, and a return built that way is identical.

Getting a usable photograph

  • Put the slip on a flat, dark surface in even light.
  • Fill the frame with the slip and keep the edges inside it.
  • Hold the camera parallel to the paper, not at an angle.
  • Turn the flash off. Glare wipes out whole boxes.
  • Take the picture straight on, then check that the small print is readable before you send it.

A PDF from a payroll portal is better than any photograph. Use it when you have one.

What Hypertax does with the file

Hypertax reads the boxes and shows you what it found beside your own copy. Every figure is presented for you to confirm or correct. Nothing is accepted into the return until you say so.

The reading step is the only place a model touches your slip, and it only extracts what is printed. It works out no tax. Read what the AI does.

If you would rather not upload

Choose "enter by hand" on the same screen. You get a form with one field per box and the box numbers labelled. This is also the fastest route if you have a clean digital copy in front of you already.

If the upload fails

Read the upload failed.

Afterwards

You control how long the image is kept, and you can delete it as soon as the boxes are confirmed. Read what happens to your uploaded file.
