What the AI does

Hypertax uses AI for three jobs: reading your slip, rewriting tax language into plain words, and flagging oddities on the Premium tier. It never works out your tax.

Hypertax uses a language model in three places, and only three.

Reading your slip

You upload a photograph of a T4. The model reads the printed boxes and puts each figure beside the box it came from. You confirm or correct every one. Nothing enters the return on the model's word alone.

Explaining things

Question text and help text are rewritten into plainer language. If the model is unavailable, or you declined consent, or the spend cap for the day has been reached, the original wording appears instead. Nothing in the return changes either way.

Reviewing, on the Premium tier

A second pass reads the finished return and flags anything that looks inconsistent, such as a box 8 amount with no tips question answered. Each flag is shown to you with the reason. You accept, change or reject it. A flag never edits a number on its own.

The line it does not cross

The model never works out an amount of tax, a credit, a deduction or a refund. Every figure comes from published rate tables and fixed rules, and the review screen shows which rule produced each one. Read the AI never computes your tax.

You can turn it off

Consent is optional and a declined consent still gives you a complete return. Read declining AI consent.
