Situations Hypertax cannot handle
A plain list of the incomes and life events that put a return outside Hypertax, from being self-employed to selling shares, and what to do when one of them applies to you.

Hypertax is built for pay from a job. These situations need a return Hypertax does not produce, and the eligibility questions will stop you before you pay.
Income Hypertax does not handle
- Self-employment. If you are self-employed, a contractor or a gig worker, or you received a T4A reporting self-employed commissions or fees, Hypertax cannot prepare your return.
- Rental income, and income from a partnership or a corporation.
- Selling shares, cryptocurrency or property, and any other capital gain or loss.
- Income from outside Canada, and foreign bank or investment accounts.
- Farming and fishing income.
Life events Hypertax does not handle
- A return for someone who died during the tax year.
- Bankruptcy during the year.
- Being a non-resident, a part-year resident, or a newcomer with a partial year of residence.
- A tax year before 2024, and any change to a return you have already filed.
- Anyone required to file a return in another country for the same year as well.
What Hypertax does handle alongside your pay
Bank interest and simple withdrawal slips are fine. So are the usual employment deductions that appear on your own slip, such as union dues or a pension contribution.
What to do if one of these applies
Use a full-service tax program or a preparer. If you have already paid Hypertax and then discover one of these applies to you, ask for a refund. See refunds and billing problems.
