Figures: 2026 tax year

The AI never computes your tax

Nothing in a Hypertax return is calculated by a language model. Every number comes from a published rate table and a fixed rule, and the review screen names the rule.

A language model produces text that reads well. That is not the same as arithmetic that is right. Hypertax is built so that no model calculates anything in your return and no model can put a number into it.

How the numbers are actually produced

Rates, thresholds, ceilings and tapers for 2026 live in versioned rule tables. The tax engine reads those tables and applies fixed rules to the figures you confirmed. The same inputs give the same output every time.

What that rules out

  • The model cannot calculate your tax, your refund or your balance owing.
  • The model cannot decide what a deduction is worth.
  • The model cannot round, adjust or estimate a figure.
  • The model cannot fill a box you left empty.
  • A different model, or a newer version of the same model, cannot change your refund.

How you can check

The review screen shows every line with the rule that produced it: which table, which threshold, which figure from which box on your slip. If a number surprises you, open the line and read the rule. If the rule is right and the inputs are right, the number is right.

Where a model can still be wrong

Reading your slip. A model can misread a 3 as an 8. That is exactly why every extracted figure is shown next to the box it came from and has to be confirmed by you before it counts. Check the digits against the paper.

Why this matters more than it sounds

A wrong number on a tax return is your problem, not the software's. You sign the return. The design makes the number checkable so that signing it is a reasonable thing to do.

  • What the AI does

Hypertax uses AI for three jobs: reading your slip, rewriting tax language into plain words, and flagging oddities on the Premium tier. It never works out your tax.

  • Declining AI consent

Consent to AI processing is optional. Declining it means typing your boxes in by hand, and it does not reduce the return you can prepare or what you pay.

  • Deductions Hypertax handles

A deduction lowers the income your tax is worked out on. The pension, RRSP, union dues, CPP and moving-expense deductions Hypertax can claim on a T1.

  • What Hypertax does

Hypertax turns one T4 into a finished T1 General you print and mail. It does not send the return for you, and it does not compute your tax with AI.
