A deduction comes off your income before the tax is worked out. A credit comes off the tax afterwards. Both lower what you pay, in different ways.
Deductions Hypertax claims on a T1
- Registered pension plan contributions, T4 box 20, on line 20700.
- RRSP contributions, from your own receipts, on line 20800.
- Union and professional dues, T4 box 44, on line 21200.
- Enhanced CPP and CPP2 contributions, from T4 boxes 16 and 16A, on line 22215.
- Moving expenses for a move for work or study, on line 21900.
What Hypertax does not deduct
Employment expenses on a Form T2200, and anything belonging to a business or a rental. If one of these matters to you, Hypertax is the wrong tool and says so up front.
